Chhath Puja - Bihar's Biggest Festival
It is an ancient Hindu festival, dedicated to Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya. Chhath Puja is more specifically celebrated in Bihar, Jharkhand, Eastern Uttar Pradesh and some parts of Nepal. This the one festival which is dedicated to Sun God, who is supposed to be the source of Ultimate Energy to lighten the planet earth.
When it is celebrated?
Chhath Puja is celebrated twice a year, once in summer (March-April) on Chaitra Shashthi, this event is called Chaiti Chhath and the second time in Winters (October-November) is called Karthik Chhath. Karthik Chhath is more popular because in winters more people are able to join the celebration and the people who stay away from their home come back to celebrate this festival with their family. The Celebration begins after Diwali, another major Hindu Festival.
